Safety Coordinator
Location: Wilmington, DE
Schedule: Full-Time | 100% Onsite (5 Days per Week)
We are seeking a Safety Coordinator to support daily health, safety, and environmental (HSE) operations at a busy maritime terminal in Wilmington, DE. This individual will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture by ensuring OSHA compliance, conducting safety training, investigating incidents, and partnering with operations leadership to maintain a safe work environment.
This is a hands-on role that requires a visible presence in the field and the ability to work closely with terminal operations, warehouse personnel, and union labor.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all established safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of terminal, warehouse, and operational work areas to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Deliver safety orientations, training sessions, toolbox talks, and other safety-related communications.
- Partner with operations management to implement safety initiatives and resolve safety concerns promptly.
- Participate in and lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring proper reporting, documentation, and corrective actions.
- Monitor corrective action plans and follow up to ensure timely completion.
- Conduct routine safety audits and communicate findings and recommendations to management.
- Maintain accurate and confidential safety records and documentation.
- Foster a proactive safety culture through coaching, education, and employee engagement.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of safety experience, preferably within the maritime, transportation, logistics, warehousing, or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience working in unionized environments is strongly preferred.
- OSHA certifications are preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) within 90 days of hire.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software systems.
Physical & Work Environment
- This is an active, field-based position requiring frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, and working around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including refrigerated warehouse environments.
- Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
- Occasional travel may be required.
