Job Summary
As an Ammonia Refrigeration Operator 1, you're the front line of plant safety and reliability. You'll operate and monitor industrial ammonia systems, log critical data, support preventive maintenance, and work alongside senior techs to keep refrigeration running and operations compliant.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintain and repair boilers and auxiliary equipment (pumps, steam/water valves, air compressors, high‑pressure condensate)
- Monitor load demands and adjust boilers, compressors, and pumps to maintain required steam, air, and water output
- Monitor and adjust chemical feed systems for water treatment to ensure proper levels
- Manipulate valves and equipment controls to regulate steam, water, and fuel flow
- Inspect boiler safety devices and observe meters/gauges to ensure proper operation
- Report abnormal conditions or major repair needs to supervisors and assist in corrective action
- Perform minor repairs (meters, valves, gaskets, joints) as needed
- Maintain boiler room cleanliness and safety standards
- Assist in annual boiler inspections and preparation
- Demonstrate safe work practices and adherence to organizational safety programs
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Operator 1 Ammonia Certification (minimum requirement)
- 2+ years of experience as a refrigeration technician/operator
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in reading schematics
- Ammonia refrigeration experience
- Knowledge of engine & boiler systems, electricity & motor controls, pneumatics & hydraulics, mechanical systems
- Experience with predictive/preventive maintenance, site utilities, and system troubleshooting
- Willingness to travel 100%
Nice to Have
- Operator 2 Ammonia Certification
- RETA Certification
- Skills in pipefitting, welding, machining, or metal fabrication
