Job Summary
Orangevale Veterinary Hospital is looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our veterinary team. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate care, perform diagnostic procedures, assist with surgeries, and support veterinarians in delivering top-tier veterinary services. Duties
- Surgery: Induction and monitoring of anesthesia, placing IV catheters, calculating & drawing up injectable medications, hooking up monitoring devices as well as visually monitoring patients, proper preparation of patients for surgery, discharging patients after surgery
- Reproduction work: Semen collection and evaluation, semen freezing, semen prepping for shipping, artificial insemination, running progesterone, assisting with evaluation of pregnancy.
- Animal handling: Perform animal restraint using humane techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Diagnostics: Conduct laboratory tests such as in-house blood work, urinalysis, ear and skin cytology, HWT, and other diagnostics to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Obtain properly positioned radiographs
- General Practice: Assist in exam rooms and take detailed patient histories, obtain vitals, current medications, vaccination history, and log basic laboratory results.
- Treatment: Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians while ensuring proper animal handling and safety protocols. Having a general knowledge of commonly used pharmaceuticals.
- Dentistry: Have knowledge to obtain diagnostic dental radiographs and perform dental cleanings.
Qualifications
- Current RVT license.
- Maintain legal continuing education requirements.
- Proficiency in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Laboratory experience including sample collection and processing
- Proficiency with X-ray equipment and positioning.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and animal handling skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle, lift, and restrain animals up to 40 pounds
