We are seeking an experienced Cannabis Operations Consultant to guide the development and launch of a new cultivation and processing operation. This individual will play a strategic role in designing production systems, selecting equipment, developing product portfolios, recruiting key personnel, and creating a scalable operational framework.
The ideal candidate has successfully launched cannabis cultivation and manufacturing operations and possesses expertise across cultivation, extraction, manufacturing, compliance, branding, and commercial strategy.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacility & Equipment Planning
- Recommend cultivation methodologies based on business objectives.
- Select cultivation systems, environmental controls, irrigation systems, lighting, fertigation, and post-harvest equipment.
- Evaluate processing and extraction equipment.
- Develop facility workflow to maximize operational efficiency.
- Assist with equipment procurement and vendor selection.
Operations Development
- Design Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Develop production workflows.
- Establish quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Recommend inventory management systems.
- Develop operational KPIs and reporting metrics.
Product Development
- Recommend initial product portfolio based on market demand.
- Evaluate opportunities in:
- Flower
- Pre-rolls
- Concentrates
- Vape products
- Edibles
- Topicals
- Solventless products
- Develop manufacturing workflows for each product category.
- Establish product quality standards.
Team Development
- Assist in recruiting:
- Director of Cultivation
- Director of Manufacturing
- Facility Manager
- Compliance Manager
- Inventory Manager
- Post-Harvest Manager
- Cultivation Technicians
- Processing Technicians
- Participate in interviewing and evaluating candidates.
- Develop onboarding and training programs.
- Recommend organizational structure.
Compliance
- Ensure operational procedures comply with applicable state regulations.
- Review SOPs for regulatory compliance.
- Assist with operational readiness prior to inspections.
- Recommend inventory control and seed-to-sale processes.
- Develop compliance documentation.
Brand & Commercial Strategy
- Assist leadership in creating one or more cannabis brands.
- Develop brand positioning and product differentiation strategies.
- Help establish pricing strategies.
- Coordinate packaging recommendations.
- Develop go-to-market plans for product launches.
- Collaborate with marketing partners on messaging and promotional strategies.
- Analyze market trends and competitive products.
Strategic Advisory
- Advise executive leadership on operational best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and profitability.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and cultivation methods.
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of commercial cultivation and processing systems.
- Experience selecting cultivation and manufacturing equipment.
- Experience developing SOPs and operational procedures.
- Knowledge of seed-to-sale systems.
- Experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG).
- Experience developing cannabis brands.
- Experience hiring executive and operational teams.
- Knowledge of Maryland cannabis regulations.
- Experience cultivating cannabis.
