UAA’s TRIO Pre-College program is looking for an Assistant Director to help oversee one Talent Search grant and two Upward Bound grants. These programs work with limited-income and potential first-generation college students as they progress through high school and enter into postsecondary education.
The Assistant Director provides leadership and administrative support for the successful implementation of a federally funded TRIO program, assisting with program operations, staff supervision, budget management, and compliance with grant and institutional regulations. This position supports the delivery of comprehensive academic advising, educational programming, assessment, and student services designed to increase postsecondary access and success for youth, particularly those from underrepresented populations.
The Assistant Director collaborates with school districts, institutional departments, and community partners to develop and maintain strong partnerships while representing the program in a professional and positive manner. The successful candidate demonstrates excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; sound judgment and discretion in decision-making; and a commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team. This role requires the ability to present effectively to both small and large audiences, learn and utilize various software applications, and take initiative to achieve program goals and outcomes.
A demonstrated commitment to educational equity and expanding access to postsecondary education for diverse student populations is essential. A master's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates with a background similar to that of the target population and those who are bilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
To thrive in this role, you will bring at least three years of progressively responsible professional experience, including two years of management or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. You have a demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and support student success through effective program administration. Experience advising high school or college students is preferred, as is experience working in TRIO or similar college access and student support programs. The ideal candidate is passionate about expanding educational opportunities, understands the unique needs of first-generation and underserved students, and is committed to fostering an inclusive, student-centered environment that promotes academic achievement and postsecondary success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Education, Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration or closely related field), Master’s preferred.
An unrestricted Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
