The Fein Memory and Aging Center includes an NIH funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) supported by the National Institute of Aging. As one of the more than 30 ADRCs across the United States, the UCSF ADRC serves as a national resource for research on the nature of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) and the development of more effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis, care, and therapy. Together, ADRCs create shared resources that support dementia-relevant research.
For more than 20 years, the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center (MAC) has been providing exemplary care for patients and their families, exploring innovative ways to understand and discover treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, and reaching out to the broader community to raise awareness about these diseases of aging. The UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center has grown from a single faculty member in 1998 into a major center for dementia care, research, and education. Today, the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center employs over 300 talented faculty and staff and enlists the support of more than 40 volunteers. We house 38 faculty members from neurology, geriatrics, psychiatry, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and nursing, and we have cared for more than 10,000 patients through our clinical and research programs.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
Required Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner 1 (less than six (6) months of experience as an NP):
Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
- One year minimum of previous research related experience (employment, academic, or volunteer), OR one year minimum of experience working with a geriatric and/or cognitively impaired adult population (employment, academic, or volunteer).
Experience performing neurological exams in a clinical setting.

Minimum License/Certification:
- California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
- California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
- California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
- NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role
Adult Outpatient (A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC).
- California Driver License (if required for position)
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS
Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None

Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years or more of clinical experience in neurology or closely related field within the past five years, including encounters with patients with neurodegenertive conditions (employment, academic, or volunteer).
- Specialized experience and/or education in neuroanatomy and neuroimaging.
