JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) to join our Vocational Rehab Services team with a special focus on peer-support, vocational readiness assessments, and intake. This role is ideal for a counselor who is passionate about empowerment, not just employment, and who can walk alongside clients from first contact through readiness and return-to-work.
You will serve as both a clinical professional and a supportive guide, conducting intakes, assessing readiness for vocational services, and providing direct peer-informed support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Intake & Readiness Assessments
- Conduct comprehensive intake interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, and vocational readiness assessments
- Determine eligibility, identify barriers to employment, and develop individualized, person-centered vocational plans
- Screen for trauma history, mental health, and support needs and make appropriate referrals
- Complete all intake documentation accurately and timely in EHR, maintaining HIPAA compliance
2. Peer-Support & Direct Client Support
- Provide 1:1 peer-informed counseling, coaching, and mentorship using trauma-informed and motivational interviewing approaches
- Facilitate peer-support groups focused on adjustment to disability, self-advocacy, job readiness, and wellness
- Support clients in navigating public systems, benefits counseling, and workplace accommodations under the ADA
- Act as a role model and advocate, fostering self-determination and community integration
3. Vocational Rehabilitation & Care Coordination
- Provide vocational counseling, career exploration, job readiness training, and supported employment services
- Collaborate with DDA, RSA/DORS, DBH, community health providers, employers, and family/support systems
- Maintain a caseload and track client progress toward employment and wellness goals
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and community outreach
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Active Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential REQUIRED, OR CRC-eligible with ability to obtain full CRC certification within 90 days of hire. Must provide proof of eligibility to sit for CRC exam at time of hire.
- Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health, or related field
- Knowledge of ADA, HIPAA, trauma-informed care, and person-centered planning principles
- Strong documentation, assessment, and interpersonal skills
- Must pass background check and be authorized to work in the US
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY
- Lived experience with traumatic disability, acquired disability, or chronic health condition. Lived experience is highly valued in this role.
- Experience in public health care settings: Medicaid/Medicare, FQHC, community mental health, public rehab programs, hospital-based rehab, or DC Department of Behavioral Health / Department on Disability Services
- Experience conducting vocational assessments, intakes, and readiness evaluations
- Peer Support Specialist certification, or experience in peer-support models
- Experience with motivational interviewing, supported employment (IPS), or benefits counseling
- Familiarity with DC community resources and public vocational systems

Work Location & Travel: Hybrid role. Must be able to work on-site in Washington, DC for intakes and group facilitation and travel within the DC metro area up to 25% for community visits.

Pay: $35.00 - $75.00 per hour
