Core Responsibilities
In accordance with the Port Angeles School District Coaches Handbook, the Head Coach is
responsible for fulfilling the following 11 Core Duties:
1. Duty to Warn – Inform athletes and parents of inherent risks associated with athletic
participation.
2. Duty to Provide Appropriate Activities – Ensure drills, practice plans, and conditioning
match the skill level and physical readiness of the athletes.
3. Duty to Provide Safe Facilities – Inspect practice facilities, driving ranges, and course
conditions for safety hazards prior to competition and practice.
4. Duty to Provide Safe Equipment – Ensure team equipment and training aids are safely
maintained and properly stored.
5. Duty to Train and Instruct – Provide safe, current, and effective instruction on swing
technique, rules, and course strategy to prevent injury and promote athlete development.
6. Duty to Supervise – Maintain adequate supervision of student-athletes on the course, at
practice facilities, and during team travel.
7. Duty to Provide Proper Discipline – Maintain athletic decorum, golf etiquette, and
appropriate sportsmanship in alignment with school policy.
8. Duty to Provide Safe Transportation – Drive district vans to transport team members
safely to and from practice courses and away competitions in compliance with district
transportation policies.
9. Duty to Keep Athletes Safe and Healthy – Monitor environmental conditions (heat,
cold, rain, lightning) and ensure proper hydration and athlete safety on the course.
10. Duty to Provide Appropriate Emergency Care – Respond promptly to injuries with
basic first aid and execute emergency action plans when necessary.
11. Duty to Document and Report – Timely log match results, injury reports, facility
issues, and administrative documentation as required.
Wages – Coach - DOE
Benefits - Medical, Retirement, Basic Life/AD&D, Basic Long-Term Disability, FSA & HSA.
Any employee anticipated to work at least 630 hours in the school year is eligible for benefits.
