Role Description
The Mergers and Acquisitions Intern will support the evaluation and execution of potential transactions in a full-time, remote capacity. A primary focus of this role is **deal origination**: the intern will proactively identify and engage with motivated sellers, initiate conversations, and gather preliminary deal information. Once a potential opportunity is identified, the intern will submit the relevant documentation to our back-office team for analysis. The back-office will evaluate the deal, structure the offer, and prepare the final proposal, which will then be submitted to the seller through the intern. This role acts as the front-line representative of the family office, managing the initial seller relationship and ensuring a seamless handoff to our internal analysis team.
Additional day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with financial modeling, preparing analyses of target companies, and conducting market and industry research. The intern will help perform preliminary due diligence, review financial statements, and support the development of investment memos and presentations. The role also involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to organize data, summarize key findings, and contribute to strategic recommendations on prospective investments and deals.
Internship Structure & Compensation
- **Compensation:** This is a **commission-based** role. The intern will receive **1% non-dilutive equity stake** in every closed deal that they successfully originate and submit to the back office. This stake represents a direct participation in the deal's success without dilution to the intern's ownership percentage. Compensation is contingent upon the successful closing of the transaction.
- **Exclusivity:** While under contract with Moreira Family Office Inc., the intern must operate exclusively through the family office. The intern cannot cut the family office out of any deal flow or pursue opportunities independently that were developed during the term of this contract. The family office retains exclusive rights to all deal flow generated by the intern during the contract period.
- **At-Will Employment:** The intern reserves the right to terminate this internship contract at any time, for any reason. Upon termination, the exclusivity clause ceases to apply to future deal flow, though it remains in effect for any deals already submitted to the back office prior to termination.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret financial data and assess risk-return profiles.
- Foundational knowledge of finance and investments, with interest in mergers and acquisitions and valuation concepts.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements relevant to transaction analysis.
- Ability to assist with due diligence activities, including data collection, document review, and information synthesis.
- **Proven ability to source and engage with potential sellers**—comfort with cold outreach, negotiation, and relationship management is highly preferred.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Excel and other productivity tools; familiarity with financial modeling is an advantage.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings concisely and build rapport with sellers.
- Self-directed work style, strong organizational skills, and reliability in a remote environment.
- Demonstrated interest in private investment, family offices, or corporate finance is beneficial.
- **Resilience and adaptability**—the ability to handle rejection and pivot strategies quickly in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
Pay: $25,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
