Overview
The Quality Assurance Technician III is an advanced-level position reporting to the Quality Manager. This role independently performs complex in-process and final inspections, interprets detailed customer drawings, and verifies compliance with specifications across multiple processes. The Technician III identifies and resolves nonconformances, supports corrective actions, and contributes to continuous improvement within the Quality Management System. Accuracy, initiative, and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Inspections:
- Perform advanced dimensional and visual inspections using all available inspection systems, including CMM and FARO Arm.
- Develop and verify inspection plans and techniques to ensure compliance with internal and customer requirements.
- Evaluate and verify product conformance to drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Perform first article and validation inspections independently and support customer submissions as required.
- Assist in troubleshooting quality-related issues during production runs.
- Maintain inspection area standards for organization, calibration, and documentation accuracy.
- Adhere to established procedures, work instructions, and directions from the Quality Manager.
- Serve as a technical resource for interpreting GD&T, drawings, and inspection processes.
- Perform all activities safely and responsibly. Identify potential issues, raise questions, and promptly report nonconformances or suspected defects to Area Supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized inspection area.

Paperwork, File and Report Maintenance:
- Prepare and verify customer submission documentation, including FAIRs, PPAPs, and ISIRs.
- Ensure inspection reports and supporting documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal and external requirements.
- Maintain and update quality records in the DLM MRP system and quality databases. Assist in preparing information for internal and external audits.
- Support process capability and measurement system analysis activities.
Continuous Improvement and Support Activities:
- Actively participate in corrective and preventive action investigations.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to inspection methods, documentation, and process performance.
- Provide training and guidance to new or lower-level technicians as assigned.
- Recommend improvements in inspection techniques, gaging, and documentation systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Competencies/Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of manufacturing quality or inspection experience.
- Minimum 24 months of demonstrated competence as a QA Technician II or equivalent experience required.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and specifications.
- Demonstrated capability in CMM and FARO Arm operation, including setup and program verification.
- Experience developing and reviewing inspection plans and documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to mentor or train junior technicians.
- Familiar with root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of accountability, accuracy, and professionalism. Independently conducts and leads unsupervised corrective actions, including root cause analysis and verification of effectiveness.
Education/ Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or equivalent technical experience preferred. ASQ or related quality certification preferred but not required.
Training Provided: Company and departmental procedures, required safety training, inspection plan development, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methods.
Equipment Used: All inspection and measurement devices including micrometers, calipers, indicators, gage blocks, height gages, torque wrenches, surface testers, optical comparator, FARO Arm, CMM, gage setter, and related quality software.
Physical Demands: Frequent hearing, talking, visual inspection, standing, walking, reaching, bending/kneeling, stooping, typing, and manual dexterity. Occasional sitting. Repetitive hand motion. Lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs.; pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs. PPE required where applicable.
Environmental Demands: Frequent independent work, changing tasks, detailed/precise work; occasional temperature fluctuations, dust, and production noise. Seldom exposed to physical danger or hazardous materials. PPE required.
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
