#Teacher assistant /Care giver to work with a young man
HOURS/DAYS OF JOB: 40+ hours weekly
Tuesday & Wednesday 3p-9p, Thursday 12p-9p, Friday 8a-8p, Saturday 9a-4p
SALARY RANGE: $ depends on experience between $23-$27
General Description:
Join a committed team of professionals supporting a young man with Williams Syndrome. A resident of South Hadley, MA, he is outgoing and friendly, and is passionate about music, sports, museums, and travel.
We are seeking an individual who has high energy and will embrace opportunities to support independence; accompany him to sporting events, museums, amusement parks and more. This is a flexible position for applicants with experience and/or a professional degree in the field working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, anxiety and medical challenges. You will work as part of a team, supervised by a residential care/program manager.
Hours: Tuesday thru Saturday
Position responsibilities:
A thorough onboarding process will orient you to the unique needs and characteristics of your client. Responsibilities may include:
● Providing support in the following areas:
○ Suport for musical classes (attending a program virtually and at home)
○ Leisure plan support
○ Mental health support for his anxiety
○ Basic medical support (knowledge of his needs)
● Cooking simple meals (following medical requirements)
● Attending a one-hour virtual team meeting once a week
Qualifications:
● Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or medical issues. Private home care experience is a plus
● Knowledge/ Abilities/ Characteristics:
○ Basic medical knowledge (ability to discern and respond to basic needs; medical). CNA or PCA training or similar experience a plus.
○ CPR first aid.
○ Interest in music, sports, travel
○ Professional attributes:
■ Motivated; strong organizational skills
■ Strong verbal and written communication skills; competent computer skills
■ Professional attire.
● Travel: Ability to obtain a passport and be available to travel with support team a few times a year.
● Requirements:
○ Must have a valid driver’s license.
○ CORI check.
○ No smoking, alcohol or drugs during the job.
○ No animals.
○ Must be able to swim.
○ References required.
Two-year commitment preferred
