Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and support to clients in various settings, including residential homes, nursing homes, and memory care facilities. The DSP is responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Support clients in daily living activities, including meal preparation, housekeeping, and laundry.
- Monitor and document vital signs and changes in client health status as required.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in meaningful activities to promote social interaction.
- Implement individualized care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect client privacy.
- Observe and report any significant changes in client behavior or condition to appropriate personnel.
- Lift and transfer clients safely when necessary, ensuring proper techniques are used to prevent injury.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients, including those receiving hospice or senior care services.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients at all times.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in direct support roles or related fields such as hospice care, senior care, or memory care is preferred.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and the ability to monitor vital signs is advantageous.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality and privacy is essential.
- Ability to lift clients safely and assist them with mobility as needed.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach towards working with individuals on the autism spectrum or with other disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
