American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring active Iowa or compact RN licensure and prior neuro/ortho trauma experience.
-
25-bed Progressive Care Unit in a hospital setting
-
Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
-
RN to patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6
-
Day shift schedule of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 36 hours per week with ability to accommodate 48 hours per week
-
Weekend work as scheduled
-
No on-call requirements
-
Required to float across multiple campuses including Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist West
-
Uses EPIC EMR
-
Utilizes telemetry, LEAF equipment, chest tubes, and AIRVO
-
Manages drips including Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium (no titration)
-
Active Iowa RN license or Compact/Multistate RN license required
-
BLS and ACLS certification through AHA or ARC required
-
NIHSS certification preferred and can be obtained during onboarding
-
Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
-
Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
-
Orthopedic care experience required
-
Trauma care experience highly preferred, including Level I trauma experience

EPIC EMR experience required
-
EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience required
-
Drip experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium required
-
Experience with telemetry, LEAF equipment, chest tubes, and AIRVO highly preferred
-
De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
-
Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
-
Driver's license required for consideration

Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred

Provide progressive care nursing to patients with complex neuro, neurosurgical, and orthopedic needs
-
Navy blue scrubs required
-
Holiday rotation required, including working 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed

Prior UPH employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are ineligible to work travel assignments in another market at any UPH facility

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
