Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented staff accountant to join our nonprofit organization. This vital role to contribute to the accurate management of client financial records that are necessary to ensure compliance with the Social Security Administration and support our organization’s mission and goals as a representative payee organization. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining general ledger integrity, preparing financial statements, and assisting with audits and internal controls. Your expertise is required to ensure efficient financial operations and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using financial software such as QuickBooks or similar systems.
- Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies, resolve issues promptly, and maintain data integrity.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Support internal controls by documenting processes, performing audits, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory standards.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts regularly through detailed account analysis and account reconciliation procedures.
- Contribute to budgeting, financial reporting, and forecasting activities while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Experience
- accounting experience with a good foundation in accounting principles.
- Familiarity with a variety of financial software such as QuickBooks.
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed data entry, account reconciliation, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation efficiently.
- Strong understanding of debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting.
- Excellent numeracy skills combined with analytical thinking for account analysis and account reconciliation tasks.
- Experience handling confidential information with integrity while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members, clients and the Social Security Administration.
