POSITION DESCRIPTION:

To provide leadership to all instructional water exercise classes, while maintaining safety of all program participants.

Currently looking for instructors with morning class availability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all participants.

Physical ability to use both legs and arms to properly demonstrate exercises and also to assist the lifeguard in an emergency.

Physically able to see, hear and project the voice across distances.
-
Able to move to various locations, including in and around the swimming pool.

Remain physically able to demonstrate all exercises.
-
Have the ability to stand for extended lengths of time.
-
Ability to handle irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.

Works with supervisor in development of a safe and challenging water exercise class.

Understands YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City policies and follows guidelines.

Promotes the water exercise classes to members, program participants and the general public.

Keep certifications current.
-
Teaches all assigned classes.
-
Notifies supervisor if unable to teach assigned class and finds appropriate substitute to teach the class.

Provides assistance to lifeguard in the event of an emergency.

The instructor is responsible for getting out and returning any equipment used in class (barbells, tape player, tapes, floatation belts, etc.). Attends appropriate staff meetings and trainings.

Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, Child Abuse Prevention, Slips Trips and Falls, and Safe Lifting training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.

Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
This position directly affects the overall YMCA’s Water Exercise program. When done properly, the Program will have a positive atmosphere and enhance the participant’s physical and mental well-being.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)

Must be 18 years of age or older and show technical ability in water fitness.

When implemented, will acquire YMCA Water Exercise Instructor or certification from another nationally recognized organization, and YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certification within six months of employment.

Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, Y members, program participants and the general public.

Ability to relate to pool patrons in a positive manner.

All instructional classes will be taught to the program objectives of the YMCA Water Exercise Program.

Water exercise classes will promote the Mission of the YMCA.
