Job Description:
The Senior Editor & Videographer is a senior hire with the responsibility to take video projects across the finish line independently. The role owns the edit all the way to final delivery, is strong on story and craft, and delivers on deadline without being managed through it. This person reports to the Director of Production and answers to them on quality and standards.
This is an edit-first role, and most of the week is spent in the office editing. Associate editors handle file organization, early draft creation, and volume work beneath this role, which directs and quality-checks their output. The Senior Editor & Videographer also needs to be competent behind the camera. When a project calls for it, they shoot it themselves: operating a camera and gimbal, lighting and setting up interviews, and capturing clean audio.
What This Role Owns
Editing
- Takes our highest priority projects from start to finished edit
- Holds the standard on anything carrying their name
- Colors to the Fifth & Broad standard
- Delivers to spec on every project
On-Set
- Shoots projects when they call for it, solo or as a part of the 5&B team
- Operates a camera and gimbal well, and gets clean, well-composed footage
- Sets up and lights interviews
Associate editors
- Directs and quality-checks the associate editors on cutdowns, early drafts, and volume work
- Gives clear, actionable feedback that raises the quality of what they turn in
- Keeps project workflows consistent, so anyone can pick up where they left off
Deadlines
- Manages the timeline and builds in enough margin that a missed date is not a possibility
- Spots risk early and raises it with a plan
What We're Looking For
- Multiple years of professional editing experience
- Fluent in Final Cut Pro. This is our primary NLE. Adobe-only editors are welcome if they are genuinely willing to convert, but FCP is what we are hiring for
- Senior-level story and editing judgment, and the taste to know what good looks like and why
- Works independently. Can be handed a project and trusted to deliver it on standard and on time, without close supervision
- Real speed. Knows the shortcuts and does not take days to complete an edit assignment
- Proficient as a videographer: comfortable operating a camera and gimbal, lighting and setting up interviews, and recording clean audio solo. Not a full-time DP, but able to run a shoot and deliver footage that is ready to edit
- Solid audio: mixing, cleanup, and music editing
- Comfortable color grading and finishing to a house standard
- Solution-oriented. Anticipates problems, solves them, and does not push them upward
- A clear, proactive communicator, about the schedule and with the team
- Easy to work with, professional, and dependable
- Able to work in-office
Compensation
- $65,000 to $78,000 per year, based on experience and portfolio
- Room to grow toward the top of the range as they take on more of the hardest work
Bringing Existing Clients
Fifth & Broad does not expect a hire to abandon the client relationships they have built. This section outlines what bringing those clients into 5&B looks like.
If a hire chooses to bring existing clients into Fifth & Broad:
- We take on all backend: contracts, invoicing, scheduling, project management, crew sourcing, and administrative overhead, etc.
- The creative stays theirs. They keep directing and creating for those clients, and the relationship stays theirs. We do not insert ourselves between them and the people who chose to work with them
- They earn a bonus on the work: 20% of the gross profit on projects we produce for clients they bring in, on top of their regular compensation
- No obligation. This is an option, not a requirement. Clients they choose not to bring over stay entirely outside Fifth & Broad
Benefits
- 15 days of paid time off per year, covering vacation, sick, and personal time, available at the start of each year and prorated for the first partial year
- Note: May, September, and October are typically high-volume production months, and PTO during these periods is limited and may not be approved except in special circumstances
- Flexibility for outside freelance work when it does not conflict with responsibilities here
- A collaborative, creative, and supportive team environment
Pay: $65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
Benefits:
Work Location: In person
