American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication across diverse settings. In this role, you will serve as a vital communication bridge between Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing individuals by accurately interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English. Your expertise will empower organizations to connect effectively with the Deaf community, ensuring messages are conveyed with cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and precision. Responsibilities
- Provide real-time interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English during meetings, appointments, interviews, trainings, conferences, and community engagements.
- Facilitate effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in diverse settings, including healthcare, legal, educational, business, and social service environments.
- Interpret accurately using appropriate interpreting methods, including consecutive and simultaneous interpreting as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive or protected information.
- Assist in cultural mediation by explaining relevant cultural nuances between Deaf and hearing communities when appropriate.
- Collaborate with clients, consumers, and team members to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in communication.
- Support accessibility initiatives and promote effective communication practices for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology, materials, and subject matter as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter in professional settings.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- RID certification, state licensure, or equivalent credentials are preferred (where applicable).
- Strong understanding of interpreting techniques, ethics, and professional standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interpret accurately under pressure.
- Experience in medical, legal, educational, business, or community interpreting environments is preferred.
- Familiarity with Deaf culture and the ability to navigate cultural nuances effectively.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different environments while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and impartiality.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
