Work Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 7a-7p/Rotating Weekends
We are seeking a highly skilled, clinically sharp Surgical Specialty Unit Registered Nurse to join our elite inpatient perioperative division at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast in Pasadena. Operating within our dedicated, high-acuity Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU), you will manage complex Post-Op recovery pathways for patients transitioning from the main Operating Room and PACU after undergoing complex orthopedic, gynecological, bariatric, and general surgical procedures. We welcome experienced Surgical Nurses, Post-Operative RNs, or Med-Surg / Telemetry clinicians who thrive in a fast-paced environment focused on acute pain management, wound care assessment, and accelerated mobility protocols. Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and the care team, you will provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care, following established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You will also act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, embodying the organization's vision, mission, and values to ensure an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes.
What you will do in this role:
- You will assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- You will assess patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standard.

You will assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.

You will assess patient condition for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.

You will perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- You will perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitors patient for therapeutic response. Notifies provider and intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
- You will teach patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

You will teach patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

You will manage the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date)

Current BLS issued from American Heart Association required

1 year of Med Surg RN experience in an acute care setting required.
