General Manager – Food & Beverage Operations
Broken Loop Brewing Co. is hiring a hands-on General Manager to help lead daily operations at our brewery, taproom, and food service operation in Colonie, NY.
This is a people-management role first and foremost. We are looking for someone who can lead staff, set expectations, follow through, hold people accountable, and keep the business operating properly when ownership is not on site.
The right person is steady, responsible, kind, and willing to jump in wherever needed. Some days that may mean managing staff and service flow. Other days it may mean helping on the floor, running expo, supporting the kitchen through a rush, jumping on prep, handling guest issues, or solving whatever needs to be solved that day.
This is not a desk-only management job. It is a hands-on leadership role in a growing brewery where the manager is expected to be present, engaged, and actively involved in making the business better.
Why Work Here
Broken Loop is a growing brewery, taproom, food service business, event space, and outdoor gathering place. We are still young enough that the right person can have a real impact on how the business grows and operates.
We offer competitive compensation, performance-based bonus opportunities, employee discounts, and direct access to ownership. You will not be buried under layers of corporate management. Your ideas will be heard, your work will be noticed, and your leadership will directly affect the guest experience, staff experience, and success of the business.
We care about good beer, good food, hospitality, community, and creating a place where both guests and staff feel welcome. We believe high standards and kindness can exist at the same time.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations across the taproom, kitchen, and guest-facing areas
- Act as manager on duty during scheduled shifts
- Own weekly scheduling for front-of-house and kitchen staff
- Manage staff accountability, including side work, closing duties, cleanliness, professionalism, and follow-through
- Coach, correct, and support staff in a clear, respectful, and consistent way
- Help build a stronger culture of communication, kindness, accountability, and ownership
- Make sure opening, closing, cleaning, prep, and service checklists are completed properly
- Oversee food service operations, including prep planning, ordering, food quality, ticket flow, kitchen cleanliness, portion control, and waste reduction
- Work expo during busy service periods as needed
- Coordinate communication between bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, and ownership
- Handle guest issues professionally and make sound judgment calls during service
- Monitor labor against sales and adjust scheduling based on volume, events, weather, and business needs
- Track operational issues such as waste, 86’d items, comps, voids, staffing problems, service breakdowns, and recurring guest concerns
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance feedback
- Communicate clearly with ownership about staffing, scheduling, food operations, service issues, vendor concerns, and improvement opportunities
- Help build systems that make the business more consistent, efficient, and less dependent on owner involvement in daily details
Qualifications
- Management experience in a restaurant, hospitality, or food-service environment
- Experience managing labor targets, food costs, inventory, ordering, scheduling, and vendor communication
- Strong people-management and communication skills
- Ability to lead a team during busy service
- Ability to be firm, fair, and kind while holding staff accountable
- Comfort managing both front-of-house standards and food-service execution
- Kitchen operations experience
- Willingness to be hands-on and fill whatever role is needed during service
- Comfort working nights, weekends, events, and peak service periods
- High standards for cleanliness, organization, guest experience, and staff accountability
- Ability to communicate clearly with ownership and follow through on agreed priorities
- Appreciation for craft beer and brewery hospitality is preferred, but strong leadership, kindness, accountability, and operational follow-through matter most
This Role Is a Good Fit If You
- Take pride in being the person ownership can trust when they are not in the building
- Believe kindness, accountability, and high standards can all be part of the same workplace
- Can correct people without creating unnecessary drama
- Notice when standards are slipping and address it
- Are willing to jump in wherever needed during service
- Communicate problems early instead of hiding them
- Understand that food service, taproom service, and guest experience all affect each other
- Want to help build systems instead of constantly reacting to chaos
Schedule
This is a full-time leadership role. The schedule will be based around business needs, with a focus on peak service periods, nights, weekends, events, and times when manager presence matters most.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
- Competitive compensation of $65k-$80k, depending on experience and role structure
- Performance-based bonuses tied to labor, COGS, and other measurable improvements
- Paid time off
- Benefits package negotiable based on role structure and experience
- Employee discounts
- Direct access to ownership
- Opportunity to help shape a growing brewery, taproom, and food program
- Varied work environment with food service, taproom service, events, and outdoor hospitality
- Room for the role to grow as the business grows
- A workplace that values communication, accountability, kindness, and high standards
