Job Description:
Incumbent orders, issues, and tracks inventory of equipment and supplies including duty gear, firearms, radios, body armor, badges, body cams, cell phones, laptops, and other equipment required to support the city's police operations. Assists with training and orientation as required for junior workers. This is an AFSCME union position.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Maintains a supply of duty gear, firearms, radios, body armor, badges, body cams, cell phones, laptops, and other equipment officers and other staff need for their daily work function which includes ordering maintaining, and issuing equipment. Ensures that all department, City, State, and Federal regulations are followed when firearms are being issued, returned, purchased, or sold. Manages department’s participation in the Federal 10-33 program: performing yearly physical audits. Keeps a general knowledge of all department firearm types, and any safety or recall concerns. Responsible for issuing, revoking, updating, and managing security rights for all SLCPD properties for police, fire, and 911 identification cards. Manages and deploys department Body Worn Cameras. Orders, issues, and inventories all Police Badges and rank insignia. Tracks all employee purchases and lost or stolen badges ensuring that proper protocol and reporting requirements are met. Monitors and maintains department billing, service, and inventory of over 1,000 department-issued cell phones and air cards. Troubleshoots equipment.
Orders and maintains the inventory of all department equipment and supplies including to whom it is assigned and where it is located. Also arranges for the service, repair, and maintenance of department equipment. Performs regular digital and physical inventories of equipment. Works with the Finance Department to coordinate all disposals/trades or sales of QM-managed equipment. Manages the Department's Quartermaster Uniform system. Maintains Voucher website items. Researches, recommends, and maintains knowledge of agreements and contracts with vendors. Addresses complaints from department personnel and vendors regarding gear, weapons, uniforms, radios, cellular, and technology systems, programs, and equipment and billing. Advises departments of changes. May make recommendations to the Office of the Chief for approval.
Maintains systems for Police inventory, body cameras, cellular phones, air cards, Tasers, uniforms, access cards, fleet, and evidence card access rights.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
This position may require operation of a city-owned motor vehicle in which case a motor vehicle record check will be conducted.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Senior Quartermaster Technician):
Two years performing as a Quartermaster Technician.
Possession of a valid driver's license and/or driving privilege card.
Ability to work with minimum supervision, be self-motivated, have self-initiative, be organized and able to prioritize tasks, understand and follow general work instructions, and comply with established policies and procedures.
Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of firearms safety.
Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain composure and relate well with co-workers and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Quartermaster Technician):
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and two years of work experience with computer hardware/software, personal computers, filing systems, word processing, spreadsheets, or other closely related field. Education and experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of a valid driver's license and/or driving privilege card.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires shift work that will include weekends and holidays. Unconventional working hours will be required including 8, 10, or 12, hour shifts.
Light to moderately heavy physical activity required to push, pull, or lift medium weights. Occasional difficult working positions. Has to stand, walk, or sit uncomfortably for limited periods. Exposure to elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust, or grease. Required to stay within workstation boundaries for extended periods of time. Occasional exposure to disagreeable elements and unpleasant working conditions. May be exposed to discomforts associated with the use of computer video display screens and keyboards.
Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.
