Job Overview
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented Purchasing and Inventory Manager for our client who is a very successful small family-owned and operated automotive supply and parts business. The client is a warehouse distributor to local and national governments and commercial fleets and have been in business for over 75 years. This position will oversee both system-based and physical inventory operations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate stock levels, managing a high volume of SKUs and vendors, placing purchase orders, and ensuring timely, cost-effective replenishment of inventory. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, advanced spreadsheet proficiency, and MUST HAVE experience in purchasing—preferably within automotive parts. This position is on-site in the Arbutus/Halethorpe office. Business hours are 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Responsibilities
Inventory & System Management
- Manage and maintain accurate inventory levels within our computer system and physical warehouse.
- Perform regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
- Update product pricing within the system using spreadsheets and advanced formulas to calculate pricing fields.
- Ensure all SKU data is accurate and current.
Purchasing & Vendor Management
- Place purchase orders with vendors and maintain positive, productive relationships.
- Manage a high volume of vendors, monitoring performance, pricing, and product availability.
- Negotiate best pricing, seasonal deals, and promotional opportunities with suppliers.
- Track purchase orders from placement through delivery, resolving delays or issues proactively.
- Order Processing for Government orders.
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with the sales team, providing accurate and up-to-date information on manufacturer lead times, delivery schedules, backorders, and pricing changes.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure inventory accuracy and timely receiving.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in inventory management, purchasing, or supply chain operations.
- Experience in automotive parts is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage a large number of SKUs and vendors.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills, including ability to build and use formulas, perform data analysis, and manage large datasets.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities; capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and purchasing software preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 per year
