Legal Assistant / Paralegal – Criminal Defense
Location: Lubbock, Texas
Keith & Lorfing is seeking a dependable, organized Legal Assistant/Paralegal to support one of our criminal defense partners in our Lubbock office.
Our firm is growing rapidly throughout Texas, with offices in Abilene, Lubbock, Midland, San Angelo, and Houston. We are building one of the premier criminal defense firms in West Texas, and we are looking for team members who want to grow with us.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being an essential part of a busy legal practice. The attorney you'll support practices both federal and state criminal defense and relies heavily on a strong assistant to keep cases moving, deadlines met, and clients informed. Compensation & Benefits
- Full-time position
- Starting salary of $37,000+, depending on qualifications and experience
- Benefits available after 90 day probationary period

What You'll Do
- Prepare, draft, proofread, and file legal documents in Texas state and federal courts
- Electronically file pleadings through CM/ECF and Texas eFile
- Maintain attorney calendars, court settings, and litigation deadlines
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, prosecutors, and opposing counsel
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files
- Assist with discovery, trial preparation, and document management
- Coordinate appointments, meetings, and client communications
- Help ensure the day-to-day operation of a busy criminal defense practice runs efficiently
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following:
- One year of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal; or
- An associate's or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or
- A paralegal certificate from an accredited program
In addition, applicants should have:
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A professional demeanor and positive attitude
- A reputation for being dependable, punctual, and reliable
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the following is strongly preferred:
- Federal CM/ECF
- Texas eFile
- Clio
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Google Docs
- Adobe Acrobat
Experience in criminal law is preferred but not required.
