JOB DESCRIPTION
Hull Seaside Animal Rescue is a private non-profit organization which rescues, adopts out, and assists in the care and control of the local homeless cat population of Hull and surrounding towns. We are a no-kill cat shelter, founded in 1999. The organization has grown to comprise over 50 volunteers who contribute to the health, well-being and adoption of approximately 200 cats each year.
The Shelter Operations Manager (SOM), who reports to the Board of Directors, is one of two paid positions at the shelter. The SOM is responsible for the medical and social needs of the cats in our care, the maintenance of animal records per regulatory requirements, the overall health, cleanliness and running of the shelter facility, and communicating frequently with the Board of Directors, volunteers, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior veterinary technician, shelter management, or veterinary office experience preferred
- Ease in managing and handling cats
- Good communication and people skills
- Excellent organization skills
- Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets
- Knowledge of Shelter Luv and Mac hard and software a plus
- Attention to detail and follow-through is essential
- Residence within a short commute to the shelter is preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
Cat health and well-being
- Manage the overall feline care at the shelter from feeding, cleanliness, and medical support.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with veterinarians regarding medical and vaccination needs
- Coordinate transportation to and from medical appointments
- Manage feline intakes and oversee shelter capacity
- Handle medical emergency situations when they arise
- Oversee feline foster program. Responsible for the appropriate placement of any cats requiring alternative care
Maintenance of records
- Maintain and update individual records for every shelter resident, including essential health, veterinary, behavioral, and general information. These records are a regulatory requirement
Cleanliness of shelter, inventory of supplies, and facility oversight
- Initiate and improve shelter operations and procedures
- Manage the inventory of cat supplies, cleaning, medical, pharmaceutical and office supplies
- Oversee the cleanliness of the shelter and the functioning of the facility.
Communication with board of directors, volunteers and public
- Report monthly to the board of directors on status of shelter operations and problems which may interfere with the proper running of the shelter
- Provide a weekly update to shelter volunteers regarding general shelter activity, cat occupants and their care, and other relevant information.
- Respond to all public inquiries about surrenders, homeless cat sightings and other community concerns.
Job Type: Part-time (20-25 hours per week)
Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour (negotiable based on experience and certifications)
