OUR MISSION
One Bead's mission is to create clear pathways to postsecondary success, starting in the middle grades. Founded in 2012, One Bead has evolved over the last decade to address the critical need for career and academic planning services targeting the middle grades. Through conversations with professionals, hands-on learning opportunities, and exposure to secondary school pathways, our flagship program ensures every child enters high school with the clarity and confidence they need to plan for what’s next.
THE ROLE
One Bead currently serves middle grade students in 10 schools across Boston, with plans to expand district-wide over the next five years. We are seeking a Program Director to support this growth through the delivery of our flagship program in Boston Public School classrooms across the city.
This role will report directly to the Senior Program Director, and the primary responsibilities will be:
- Program Delivery. Lead engaging classroom experiences that help students identify their interests and strengths, explore potential career paths, understand the high school choice process, and connect their future goals to specific schools, pathways, and programs.
- Speaker Coordination. Recruit, schedule, prepare, and support guest speakers throughout the year to ensure students are exposed to a diverse range of careers, experiences, and pathways. Maintain clear communication with speakers and school staff, and help ensure each classroom visit is engaging, organized, and aligned with program objectives.
- Evaluation. Monitor student understanding throughout the year, use survey data to identify areas where additional support is needed, and contribute to the continuous improvement of One Bead's curriculum and programming.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE…
- Has experience working with young people, particularly middle-school-aged students. You have experience managing a classroom where students feel respected and encouraged to participate. You have strong facilitation skills and the ability to adjust your approach based on students’ needs while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries.
- Is skilled at relationship building. You can build trusting relationships with teachers, school staff, guest speakers, and community partners — communicating clearly, following through on commitments, and taking the time to understand the people and communities you work with.
- Is organized. You can manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Whether coordinating guest speakers, managing school schedules, collecting student data, or tracking program outcomes, you can build systems that keep your work organized and moving forward.
- Takes initiative. You are proactive and resourceful. You know how to think creatively, adapt to changing circumstances, and design experiences that help students achieve desired outcomes. When challenges arise, you take ownership, identify solutions, and follow through.
