Senior Product Manager – PSPS / Utility Operations
Location: Oakland, CA 94612
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2–3 days/week in office as needed
Contract Duration: 5+ months
Pay Rate: $80–$100/hr on W2
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to support Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) products and the implementation of a PSPS/ADMS module within a large utility environment. This role will partner closely with Distribution Engineering, business program leads, IT, Product Management, and PMO teams to maintain and enhance existing PSPS scoping products while supporting successful product releases and go-live activities.
The ideal candidate is a self-driven product management professional with strong communication skills, experience working in complex matrixed organizations, and the ability to translate business needs into clear technology requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a strong understanding of PSPS scoping products, business processes, operational workflows, and stakeholder requirements.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify opportunities for product enhancements and process improvements.
- Contribute to the Product Roadmap and Product Backlog, including Excel-based tracking and prioritization.
- Define technology business outcomes for assigned product areas in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Support product prioritization and business process improvement initiatives.
- Develop detailed feature requirements and functional documentation using Wiki or other documentation tools.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for communicating business and feature requirements to IT teams.
- Facilitate and participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and end-to-end business testing.
- Support testing activities including pre-FSE, pre-season, and in-season testing.
- Participate in product demonstrations and assist with user training as needed.
- Support PSPS/Emergency Operations Center activities for the assigned product area when production issues arise.
- Collaborate with Distribution Engineers, Distribution Program Leads, PSPS IT teams, Product Managers, and PMO stakeholders.
- Support the successful Go-Live of the PSPS/ADMS module.
- Act as a subject-matter and content expert for the assigned product line within a matrixed organization.
- Communicate product status, risks, requirements, priorities, and business outcomes effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Marketing, Psychology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant Product Management experience.
- Experience with project management and cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience working within a large, complex, matrixed organization.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle, requirements management, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into clear and actionable technology requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the energy, electric utility, or utility operations industry.
- Experience supporting Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), distribution operations, grid modernization, or related utility programs.
- Experience with ADMS or utility operational technology systems.
- Experience supporting UAT, production releases, go-live activities, and operational support.
- Experience working with sales or marketing teams supporting commercial or industrial customers.
- Experience in energy efficiency programs.
- Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a hands-on, business-oriented Product Manager who can quickly understand complex operational processes, work effectively with engineering and IT teams, and drive requirements from discovery through testing and implementation. Strong communication, stakeholder management, ownership, and the ability to operate in a matrixed environment are critical to success.
Work Location & Requirements
- Local candidates only in or near Oakland, San Ramon, Dublin, or surrounding areas.
- Hybrid position with approximately 2–3 days per week in an office as needed.
- Office locations may include Oakland General Office (OGO), San Ramon, or other designated company locations.
- Candidate must be comfortable participating in in-person collaborative workshops.
- A client laptop will be provided. A client phone may potentially be provided.
- In the event of equipment delays, a vendor/personal device may potentially be required.
- Any additional tools or equipment required to perform the role must be vendor-provided or supplied by the candidate.
Pay: $80.00 - $100.00 per hour
