POSITION: Senior Equipment Operator
DEPARTMENT: Roads & Bridges
Responsibilities:
Operates a wide variety of heavy equipment and trucks utilized in road construction and maintenance activities.
Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties:
- Highly skilled in the operation of a variety of road construction and road maintenance equipment; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with such equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of grading principles and practices relating to road construction and road maintenance.
- Knowledgeable in the use of a transit level.
- Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment. Motorized vehicles and equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, pans, motor graders, all sizes of dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility trucks, street sweeper, asphalt equipment, man-lifts, tamps, plate compactor, large compaction equipment, ditch witch saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone.
- Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to observe proper safety precautions; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public; ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions; ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, Required Licenses, Skills, or Certifications:
Must have a valid SC Commercial Driver’s License, Class A, or ability to obtain one within (3) months.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalency
3 to 5 years’ experience
