Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and autonomous HVAC Project Estimator to evaluate, design, and price residential and commercial mechanical systems. You will conduct comprehensive on-site assessments and accurately estimate project scopes without relying on blueprints. Strong expertise in executing precise Manual J calculations and sizing equipment to exact BTU requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Evaluation & Scoping: Perform thorough on-site walkthroughs to develop accurate "design-build" scopes of work and project estimates in the absence of pre-drawn blueprints.
- Load Calculations & Sizing: Determine exact heating and cooling loads, sizing equipment to BTU requirements using industry-standard Manual J calculations.
- System Expertise: Estimate a wide variety of mechanical systems, including Hydronics, Forced Air, Mini-Splits, Roof Top Units (RTUs), and Radiant heating.
- Cost Takeoffs & Proposals: Prepare detailed, line-item material and labor takeoffs. Compile comprehensive and competitive bid packages including labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Relations: Obtain and evaluate competitive quotes from equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
- Project Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of estimates, field notes, proposals, and project exclusions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of direct experience in the HVAC industry, with a proven track record in both residential and commercial estimation.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep, working knowledge of HVAC design parameters and installation practices for hydronics, forced air, mini-splits, roof tops, and radiant systems.
- Calculation Proficiency: High-level capability to size equipment per BTU requirements and independently perform Manual J calculations.
- Autonomy: Proven ability to design, build, and estimate project costs efficiently without relying on architectural or mechanical blueprints.
- Communication: Excellent analytical skills with the ability to clearly present estimates, explain system choices, and negotiate scope with clients and field teams.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with MS Office.
Pay: $67,996.50 - $81,888.26 per year
