Medical Assistant – Pelham Parkway Surgery Center
Qualifications
- Education: Typically a high school diploma or equivalent is required, followed by the completion of an accredited medical assistant program, which can be a diploma or associate's degree.
- Certification: While not always mandatory, many employers prefer or require a nationally recognized certification, such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- CPR certification: Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification is usually required.
Position Summary
The Surgery Center Medical Assistant Administrator will provide both administrative support and clinical duties and assist in the daily operations of the surgery center. This role includes managing schedules, coordinating patient care, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and have a strong understanding of medical terminology and surgical procedures.
Medical Assistant Essential Functions
Administrative Tasks:
§ Patient reception: Greeting patients, answering phones, and managing incoming correspondence.
§ Scheduling: Booking, obtaining insurance authorizations, confirming and managing patients’ appointments and procedures, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed and accurate.
§ Record Keeping and Maintenance: Maintain patient records, files, and databases; ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and other healthcare standards.
§ Billing and Insurance: Verifying insurance coverage, processing billing and ensuring timely processing of insurance claims, and handling patient payments.
§ Supply/ Inventory Management: Keeping track of medical and office supplies and placing orders to restock as needed.
§ Communication: Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative/clinical staff; handle inquiries and provide information regarding services and procedures.
§ - Compliance and Quality Assurance: Assist in ensuring that the surgery center adheres to all regulatory requirements and quality assurance protocols.
§ Specimen handling: Ensure that the specimens obtained during the procedure are handled according to policies and procedures
§ Actively participates as a team member
§ Meets goals set during previous evaluation within the time frame designated
§ Flexible with the staffing needs of Pelham Parkway Surgery Center.
Clinical Tasks:
- Patient intake: Interviewing patients to record their medical history, chief complaint, and other relevant information.
- Vital signs: Measuring and recording patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight (When needed).
- Assisting physicians: Helping with patient examinations, minor office procedures, and treatments.
- Specimen collection: Drawing blood, collecting samples (such as urine), and preparing them for laboratory testing.
- Medication administration: Giving injections or medications to patients as directed by a physician and according to state law.
- Patient education: Explaining treatment plans, special diets, or medication schedules to patients.
