Job Description - Caregiver

Responsibilities
Observe and supervise residents. Assist residents with all daily living activities and personal care including but not limited to grooming and hygiene. Follow safety guidelines including proper lifting technique and standard precautions when providing care to residents. Report any resident requests, needs and changes to the Administrator. Encourage and assist residents with a variety of planned recreational, social and educational activities. Ask for assistance in the event all assigned duties cannot be completed. Function as a team, assisting coworkers as needs arise. Supervise residents and visitors signing in and out of the facility. Promote open communication between health care professionals, families, residents and staff. Participate in all training as required by facility policy and regulation. Report any witnessed or suspected resident abuse. Maintain the facility in an orderly, safe and sanitary condition. Dispense medication as directed by resident’s physician and monitor for side effects, expired medications, etc. Act immediately on any resident crisis, following facility policy and basic first aid training. Care for cognitively impaired residents by using techniques that address the unique needs and behaviors of these individuals through effective communication and understanding. Use interventions to reduce the effects of cognitive impairments. Demonstrate support of Resident Rights by providing resident privacy, maintaining resident confidentiality, upholding resident dignity and promoting the resident’s right to make personal choices to accommodate their needs.
Requirements
- Eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be in good health, and both physically and mentally capable of performing all job duties. Physical health and freedom from infectious diseases including tuberculosis will be verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test, performed by a physician not more than six months prior to or seven days after employment or licensure. A written report will be made and signed by the examining physician indicating whether the person is physically qualified to perform their job duties and whether they have any health condition that would create a hazard to him/herself, other staff members or residents.
- Prior to beginning employment, must present to the Administrator proof of successful completion of an approved Adult First Aid and CPR program and maintain a current card throughout their term of employment.
- Be criminally cleared through the FBI and DOJ before being present in the facility.
- Have a general understanding of the needs of the elderly and a willingness to learn.
- Have knowledge of community services and resources.
- Must be capable of cooking and cleaning as needed.
- Must show a willingness to accept responsibility for the job duties assigned to them.'
