Job Summary**
The Survey Party Chief leads a survey crew in Laredo, TX for Primoris Heavy Civil projects, ensuring accurate and efficient surveying operations on construction sites for James Construction Group, LLC. This role involves supervising field activities, operating survey equipment, and maintaining data integrity to support civil construction projects.
Responsibilities**
- Lead and direct a survey crew in performing various types of surveys, including but not limited to topographic, boundary, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
- Operate and maintain a wide range of survey equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors.
- Interpret and implement engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications for survey layout.
- Perform calculations and data reduction for survey points, alignments, and quantities.
- Ensure the accuracy and precision of all survey measurements and data collection.
- Maintain clear and concise field notes, sketches, and digital records of survey activities.
- Oversee the safety of the survey crew and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic field repairs.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other construction personnel.
- Mentor and train junior survey crew members.
- Manage survey project deadlines and deliverables.
- Prepare and submit daily progress reports.
Qualifications**
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or technical certification in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying, with at least 2 years in a Party Chief or supervisory role, preferably in heavy civil construction.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting modern survey equipment (GPS, Total Stations, Data Collectors).
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, methods, and calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and CAD drawings.
- Experience with surveying software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D) is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
