Job Summary
The Medical Assistant is an essential member of the health care team who supports practitioners in providing high-quality patient care. In this role, they interact professionally with patients, providers, and other clinical personnel while working collaboratively with the medical team to ensure efficient and effective care delivery. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in facilitating patient flow within the practice, contributing to optimal patient processing and satisfaction. They apply essential skills and knowledge to expedite the entire patient visit process, including registration, intake screening, provider encounters, and safe discharge.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
Interviewing patients about medical histories, current symptoms, medication reconciliation, allergy to medications, and smart forms
Preparing examination rooms for each patient and cleaning up after
Preparing patients for the physician’s exam
Assisting the physician with the physical exam
Drawing blood (phlebotomy)
Getting vital signs (b/p, pulse, respiration, temp, height, weight and pulse ox)
Administering electrocardiogram examinations
Changing dressings on wounds
Instructing patients about procedures and treatments
Performing basic laboratory exams
Collecting laboratory specimens and preparing them for analysis
Providing information to patients regarding prescribed diets or medications
Transmitting prescriptions and refills to pharmacies as instructed by provider
Following up with patients after office visits or treatments (closing referral/DI loops)
Lab reviews in the morning and letting the provider know any abnormal values
Can place the order in ECW under the direction of provider for any DI, Lab or referrals.
Creates telephone encounters with proper information to provider
Creates a folder for hospital discharges and scans documents assigning to the provider
Adds or changes pharmacy in ECW
Knowledge of assisting patient to change PCP
Follows proper HIPPA guidelines
Clinic Operations & Workflow:
Manage patient flow and prepare exam rooms
Clean and disinfect rooms per Infection Control standards
Shared responsibility for incoming phone calls
Documentation & Technology:
Telephone encounters for no-show patients, recalls
Document care in EMR systems accurately
Print patient education materials
Assist with Referrals and Authorizations for Medications and Diagnostic testing
Discharge & Communication:
Review discharge instructions with patients
Schedule follow-up appointments
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
Current BLS certification
Preferred Qualifications
Prior outpatient or ambulatory care experience
CMA, RMA, or equivalent certification

EMR and computer literacy
Knowledge of clinical procedures and safety
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to assist and position patients safely
Pay: $21.00 - $23.50 per hour
