POSITION: Beginning Teacher Support Coordinator (2 positions)
LOCATION: Centrally-Based
PAY: Administrator Salary Schedule
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
REPORTS TO: Executive Director for Beginning Teacher Induction
JOB GOAL: Support beginning teachers who are required to participate in a three-year induction period with a formal orientation, mentor support, and additional observations and evaluation prior to the recommendation for continuing licensure. Position also coordinates support for beginning teachers through administrators, lead mentors, mentors, coaches and specialists.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Masters degree in education and/or proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher for a minimum of five years.

Successful experience as a mentor or mentor coordinator is preferred.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

Strong technology skills.

Knowledge of effective staff development models that lead to the successful development of effective teachers.

Masterful knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices.

Ability to coordinate a variety of programs and activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop relationships within the district to support staff induction and retention.
-
Work collaboratively to create a culture that fosters the vision of Johnston County Public Schools through professional development for certified personnel with a focus on those newly-hired.

Facilitate the BT coaching cycle that includes observation, feedback, reflection and goal setting as well as providing social and emotional support.

Collaborative in planning and execution of the state-required 10-day Residency License Orientation for new hires.

Design, coordinate, and facilitate the state-mandated Beginning Teacher Orientation – both summer and monthly make-up sessions.

Support administrators, lead mentors, and mentors in the development of beginning teachers.

Work with beginning teachers to address the learning needs of their students through classroom observations and conferences.

Ensure that all beginning teachers maintain state required professional files through regular reviews during their first three years of teaching.

Facilitate Beginning Teacher of the Year nomination and selection process.

Maintain a log of all teacher and school visits and routinely uses data from the log to determine professional development needs or strategically plan the work of the department.

Carry out other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.

Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.

Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
