3G/4G SMAW Structural WelderPosition Overview
ProIndustrial Inc. is hiring experienced 3G/4G SMAW Structural Welders for industrial construction work in a refinery environment. This position is for skilled welders who can perform vertical and overhead structural welds using SMAW processes while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience welding structural steel, pipe supports, platforms, stairs, handrail, embeds, and miscellaneous steel in active industrial or refinery facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform SMAW welding in the 3G vertical and 4G overhead positions
- Weld structural steel members, supports, platforms, stairs, ladders, handrail, embeds, and miscellaneous steel
- Read and interpret structural drawings, weld symbols, field sketches, and work packages
- Fit, tack, align, and weld steel components in the field
- Perform welding in elevated, confined, and restricted-access areas as required
- Work from manlifts, scaffolding, ladders, and structural steel
- Support steel erection, bolting, rigging, layout, and field installation activities
- Follow refinery safety requirements, permit procedures, hot work requirements, and site-specific policies
- Inspect completed welds for quality, appearance, and compliance with project requirements
- Maintain tools, welding leads, machines, PPE, and work areas in a clean and safe condition
- Work closely with foremen, fitters, riggers, and other trades to complete work safely and efficiently
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a structural steel welder
- Must be capable of welding SMAW 3G and 4G
- Ability to pass a 3G/4G weld test
- Experience welding with common SMAW electrodes such as E7018 and/or E6010
- Ability to read structural drawings and understand weld symbols
- Strong understanding of welding safety, hot work, fire watch requirements, and refinery work practices
- Ability to work in an active refinery or industrial facility
- Ability to work safely at heights and in confined or restricted-access areas
- Must be dependable, safety-focused, and able to work as part of a crew
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass drug screening, background checks, and site-specific safety requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Refinery, chemical plant, mining, or heavy industrial experience
- Experience with structural fitting and steel erection
- Aerial lift, forklift, rigging, or confined space training
Work Environment
This position will primarily be performed in a refinery environment. Work may include exposure to heights, weather, noise, dust, fumes, confined spaces, and active operating units. Candidates must be able to follow all refinery safety procedures, participate in daily safety meetings, obtain required work permits, and work safely around other trades and operating equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and welding equipment
- Ability to stand, climb, kneel, bend, and work in awkward positions
- Ability to work from elevated platforms, ladders, scaffolding, and manlifts
- Ability to wear required PPE, including FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, and fall protection when required
Requirements

- Must comply with all company and refinery safety requirements
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
