Function / Position Summary
Consultative position in the provision of nursing duties in a school environment that requires the exercise of "instructional judgment" or "assessment of pupils to enhance academic achievement for all."
Job Duties / Responsibilities

Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating nursing practice guidelines, school health programs and initiatives, objectives and procedures.

Participates in planning programs that eliminate or minimize student health concerns that may interfere with learning.

Develops individual Health plans for the care of students with chronic health conditions and disabilities.

Develops individualized health plans with specific goals, objectives and interventions based on student health needs.

Consults with assigned building staff in the implementation if IHP's.

Provides Health Education

Provides consultation to teachers regarding requested lessons for students in the classroom.

Provides education opportunities for school staff on health-related issues.

Participates in school district wellness initiatives.

Promotes and assists in the control of communicable disease.

Provides consultation to RN regarding immunization compliance.

Serves as a resource in program planning for disease prevention and education.

Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.
Education
-
Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited university.

Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Nurse endorsement, Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license and current CPR certification required.

School nursing experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
Experience / Knowledge
-
Pediatric/Adolescent nursing experience preferred.

3-5 years of working in a school as a nurse is preferred.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.
-
Ability to think critically in stressful situations.

Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and other laws and regulations that dictate CSN practice.

Ability to manage diverse student needs, including chronic conditions and emergency situations.
Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting or standing.

Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, such as screening equipment and files.

Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.

Must work indoors in a busy school environment.

Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
-
Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.

May be required to leave the main work site to attend meetings.
Terms of Employment

Nine-month position (184 work days)

The starting salary for this role is $60,689.
