About the Honors Program
The Honors Program at CBU is designed to serve the capacities and needs of students with proven academic abilities who seek a more intensive, challenging, and transformational educational experience as a complement to their degree program. Currently, the university offers a range of specially designated honors courses across the curriculum. The program also schedules numerous events for honors students, ranging from service projects to social activities. Students who complete 21 hours, including an Honors Capstone, and maintain an adequate GPA, receive an Honors Diploma upon graduation. As we chart an innovative path forward, the Honors Director will be charged with reviewing current practices and developing new ones, including the option of developing and implementing a competency-based model of experiential learning for the Honors Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and leverage the mission and vision of an experiential, competency-based honors program at CBU.

Establish partnerships and interdisciplinary opportunities with CBU and community-based partners in order to develop competency-based experiences rooted in high impact practices.

Ensure a diverse and reliable schedule of honors courses and experiences each semester, including courses that satisfy university general education requirements (GERs) and co-curricular experiences that add meaning and value to the CBU experience.

Engage in strategic planning for the honors program in collaboration with academic chairs, directors, and deans.

Recruit qualified faculty to develop honors-designated courses and experiences, with an emphasis on piloting new initiatives that could be institutionalized across campus.

Collaborate with chairs, directors, and deans to assess honors courses and experiences for quality.

Establish and assess criteria for admission, retention, and graduation with honors, in alignment with CBU's strategic goals of increasing enrollment and attracting and retaining top talent at the institution.

Recruit prospective honors students from incoming first-year and transfer students, as well as transfer applicants from within the CBU student body.

Co-advise honors students relative to their personal and professional goals, honors requirements, and academic experiences.

Chair the honors council?a committee of faculty, administration, and students to advise, develop procedures, and screen potential faculty, courses, and students.

Work collaboratively to plan, coordinate, and market meaningful engagement activities for honors students, including but not limited to: overnight retreats, participating in regional and national honors associations, hosting guest speakers on campus, attending local cultural events, and hosting public service and community engagement activities.

Establish award recognition policies for honors courses and honors graduates.

Popularize the program among staff, faculty, and university administration.

With CBU's Department of Communications and Marketing, develop and distribute marketing materials for the honors program.

Maintain currency of the description of the honors program in the CBU Catalog.

Make and maintain professional contacts with administrators of other honors programs.

Oversee the honors program budget.

Perform other duties as assigned by the VPAA and/or President.
- Masters degree or higher.

Minimum three years experience overseeing or partnering with an honors program or similar student activities program on a college or university campus.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Demonstrable ability to collaborate with faculty on program design and implementation.
Preferred
- Academic advising experience.

Familiarity with innovative trends in student success, transformational learning, and retention.
