Estate Planning Attorney — Entrepreneurial Attorney / Fast-Track Partnership
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Experience: 3–5 years
License: Active California Bar License
Employment: Full-Time
About the Opportunity
Boutique law firm in Carlsbad focused on estate planning, trusts, trust administration, and probate is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial-minded California attorney to join our growing practice.
This is not a traditional associate position. We are looking for someone who wants to help build and grow a law firm and who has a genuine interest in becoming a partner.
The right candidate will have approximately 3–5 years of estate-planning experience, strong legal and drafting skills, excellent client-communication abilities, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Accelerated Partnership Opportunity
We offer a fast-track path to partnership for the right attorney. While partnership may typically occur within 1–2 years, exceptional candidates may be considered for partnership in substantially less time.
We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term member of the firm and ultimately have a meaningful role in its growth and direction.
Responsibilities
- Draft and review trusts and comprehensive estate plans
- Amend and update existing estate-planning documents
- Advise clients regarding estate-planning strategies
- Handle trust administration matters
- Handle probate matters
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Work with CPAs, financial advisors, wealth managers, and other professional advisors
- Participate in networking and business-development activities
- Help develop strategies to grow the firm's client base and referral network
- Contribute ideas for improving the firm's systems, services, and client experience
- Take an active role in the firm's long-term growth and development
Entrepreneurial Opportunity
We want an attorney who thinks beyond simply handling assigned matters.
The ideal candidate will be interested in developing business, building professional relationships, generating referrals, improving the practice, and identifying opportunities for growth.
You do not need to already have a large book of business. We are interested in someone with the initiative and ambition to build one.
Litigation Experience Is a Plus
Our practice currently focuses on estate planning, trusts, trust administration, and probate rather than litigation.
However, if you have trust, probate, estate, or related litigation experience and are interested in helping us develop a litigation component of the practice, we are open to that opportunity.
An attorney who wants to build a litigation practice within an established estate-planning and probate firm could have significant latitude to develop that area of the business.
Ideal Candidate
- 3–5 years of meaningful estate-planning experience
- Active California Bar license in good standing
- Strong drafting and analytical skills
- Excellent client-service and communication skills
- Experience with trusts and/or probate preferred
- Litigation experience a plus
- Entrepreneurial, ambitious, and self-motivated
- Comfortable networking and developing professional relationships
- Interested in business development and growing a client base
- Interested in taking ownership and responsibility
- Interested in a genuine path to partnership
