The University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking experienced Phlebotomists who are passionate about patient care, quality, and professional development. As a Senior Phlebotomist, you will play a key role in supporting laboratory operations while helping train and develop the next generation of phlebotomy professionals.
This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on patient interaction with leadership responsibilities, making a direct impact on both patient experience and staff success.
What You'll Do: Patient Care & Specimen Collection
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using a variety of collection techniques.
- Accurately identify, collect, register, and process laboratory specimens.
- Provide services at Patient Service Centers, clinics, nursing homes, and other assigned locations.
- Conduct home draws as needed.
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered service to individuals of all ages.
Training & Staff Development
- Train and onboard new phlebotomy staff.
- Coordinate orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing education programs.
- Monitor staff performance and document competency requirements.
- Support retraining efforts when quality or performance concerns are identified.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with New York State, CAP, and other regulatory standards.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Promote adherence to laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Partner with supervisors and laboratory leadership to achieve departmental goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, increase efficiency, and enhance service quality.
- Support a positive, collaborative team environment.
- Participate in evaluating and implementing process improvements and best practices.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience.
- Phlebotomy certification or equivalent training.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Computer proficiency and accurate documentation skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
