The United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the Eastern District of California has contracted Analytic Acquisitions to fill the position of Legal Assistant for the Criminal department. We are a government contractor. *Paid benefits package*

STATEMENT OF SERVICES:
- Perform administrative and legal support to multiple attorneys,
- Establish and maintain a variety of files.
- Search legal reference files for information needed by AUSAs in conducting interviews and preparing correspondence.
- Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents from file material.
- Receive visitors and telephone callers.
- Furnish requested information concerning pending and closed matters and cases, functions and general procedures of the office.
- Determine which matters should be referred to the AUSA and the urgency of the matter.
- Maintain calendar(s) of the ALISA(s), scheduling appointments, interviews and provides reminders of commitments and court appearances.
- Produce a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications to include Microsoft Word, E-Scan It, and Adobe. Ensure proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar of documents.
- Format and proofread Ninth Circuit and District Court briefs to include generating Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities.
- Run West Law or Lexis-Nexis checks on citations in accordance with established Federal standards.
- Prepare Indictments and supporting documentation.
- Open investigations and work closely with other federal and state agencies.
- Prepare Grand Jury subpoenas and arrange for service.
- File legal documents via electronic case filing in Federal Court, Court of Appeals, and Superior Courts, as required.
- Scan and Bates number Discovery for production to defense and probation.
- Follow DOJ policy for the encryption of all Discovery before distribution.
- Schedule court reporters, interpreters and witnesses as needed.
- Make travel arrangements to include authorizations and vouchers through the E2 travel system
- Assist with periodic case certification process. Work with attorneys and docketing clerk to verify case information.
- Separate, screen, select, assemble, and organize files and records material for disposition. Purge and close cases at completion.
RECEPTION:
- Serve as backup in the reception and mail areas and screen telephone calls and walk-in visitors to the office.
- Announce calls and visitors to an appropriate staff member or an appropriate office.
- Take complete and accurate messages and timely forward to the appropriate person.
- Screen visitors and telephone calls to determine the purpose of call or visit.
- Answer questions of a general nature and refer callers to appropriate parties.
MAIL:
- Sort and route mail by determining subject matter and organization designation.
- Record, control, and process mail which requires special handling, e.g., registered, certified, classified, etc.
- Obtain receipt signatures.
- Prepare outgoing material for dispatching to include date stamping, metering, or canceling, bundling, and bagging mail according to regulations, and wrapping bulk mail.
- Collect and/or deliver grand jury and unclassified mail and material to individuals or offices.
- Assist with lifting or moving of furniture, boxes, office supplies, etc., as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Have at least one year of experience in the legal field for Criminal law.
- Possess excellent written and communication skills.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Word and possess strong computer skills.
- Type at a minimum of 40 words per minute with good punctuation, spelling, and grammar skills.
- Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
