Position Title: AmeriCorps Youth and Consumer Specialist

Employment Details:
This is an AmeriCorps service position for an 11-month term beginning in August 2026. The member will serve in person Monday through Thursday, with remote service on Fridays. Benefits include a full-time living allowance of $25,500, an education award of up to $7,395, loan deferment, and interest forbearance during service.

The AmeriCorps Youth & Consumer Specialist will gain hands-on experience in youth conflict resolution programming, consumer protection, mediation, and court-connected dispute resolution.
Position Summary
MetroWest Mediation Services is seeking an AmeriCorps member to support our youth mediation and conflict resolution programs, our Local Consumer Program, and our mediation services.
The member will help lead peer mediation trainings, serve as an onsite coordinator for youth programs, and help run PeaceBuilders, our afterschool conflict resolution program for elementary-aged students in Framingham. The member will also assist consumers through our Local Consumer Program, which works in cooperation with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office to help resolve consumer complaints with businesses.
The member will be trained as a mediator in Maryland (through Community Mediation Maryland in August/September) and then will work full-time at MetroWest Mediation.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Mediation and PeaceBuilders Programming
- Help lead peer mediation trainings for students.
- Serve as an onsite coordinator for youth mediation and conflict resolution programs.
- Help run PeaceBuilders, an afterschool program for elementary-aged students in Framingham.
- Support youth in developing communication, empathy, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Help prepare program materials, activities, attendance records, and follow-up communications.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with youth, schools, families, and community partners.
Local Consumer Program
- Manage a caseload of consumer complaints received from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, typically between 5 and 20 cases at a time.
- Provide consumer assistance and dispute resolution services by telephone.
- Communicate with consumers, businesses, and other agencies involved in cases.
- Keep detailed case notes and update the OnBase database daily.
- Provide consumer information, referrals, education, and resources to the public.
- Research business background information and applicable laws as needed.
- Complete additional Local Consumer Program tasks as needed.
Mediation Training and Court Experience
- Complete mediation training through MetroWest Mediation Services.
- Observe and participate in mediation-related activities as appropriate.
- Develop skills in neutrality, active listening, facilitation, conflict analysis, and problem-solving.
- Have the opportunity to mediate small claims court cases after completing required training and supervision.

Skills and Experience Gained
The AmeriCorps Consumer & Youth Mediation Specialist will gain experience in youth development, peer mediation, afterschool programming, consumer protection, case management, mediation, court-connected dispute resolution, public education, and community-based nonprofit work.
Pay: $25,500.00 per year
