Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic part-time (Afternoons, 2pm-6pm) School Custodian and Maintenance Support to join our team. This vital role ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for performing custodial duties, light maintenance tasks, and supporting overall facility upkeep. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a positive school atmosphere while developing valuable skills in facilities maintenance and cleaning operations.
Duties
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, faculty room, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces and high-touch areas
- Respond promptly and appropriately to spills, bodily fluids, vomit, and other emergency cleanup situations
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and maintain cleanliness of disposal areas
- Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed
- Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks, including but not limited to:
- Unclogging toilets and sinks
- Replacing light bulbs and fixtures as needed
- Addressing minor plumbing issues
- Tightening or repairing fixtures, hardware, and equipment
- Assisting with general troubleshooting and small repairs
- Identify, document, and report larger maintenance or safety concerns
- Assist with setup and breakdown of rooms for school activities and events
- Ensure all doors, lights, and designated areas are secured at the end of each shift
- Safely operate custodial equipment and maintenance tools
- Support seasonal cleaning projects and other assigned tasks as needed
- Follow safe lifting practices during all manual handling tasks to prevent injury and ensure workplace safety
Skills
- Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, and repair work strongly required
- Ability to work independently with strong time management and prioritization skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively report issues and follow instructions
- Ability to remain calm and effective when responding to unexpected cleaning or maintenance situations
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and work ethic required

Work Environment

Pay: $20.00 per hour
