Responsibilities
- Safely operate dump trucks, tractor-trailers, roll-off trucks, flatbeds, and tankers following all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Load and unload materials using appropriate manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts when necessary
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across over-the-road (OTR) routes and local job sites
- Transport hazardous materials (hazmat) and dangerous goods adhering strictly to hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in compliance with FMCSA regulations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking load securement, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and fluid levels
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route changes, delivery schedules, or any vehicle issues that arise during shifts
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on truck loading/unloading, route driving, and freight handling
- Prior delivery driver experience preferred, especially involving heavy-duty vehicles such as dump trucks or tractor-trailers
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling procedures and safe manual handling practices
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations related to commercial driving, DOT compliance, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods
- Ability to operate auxiliary equipment such as forklifts when required for loading or unloading cargo
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the vehicle type (e.g., hazmat endorsement preferred)
- Strong understanding of GPS navigation tools and route planning for efficient deliveries across diverse terrains
