We are seeking a motivated professional to join our growing Nevada and California environmental teams — someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality work, enjoys solving complex environmental challenges, and thrives in a dynamic, project-driven environment. Based in our Reno office, this role offers a blend of in-office, field, and hybrid work alongside peers across multiple locations. You will have the opportunity to think creatively, learn and navigate diverse regulatory requirements, and contribute to projects that make a meaningful impact, all while being supported in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Wood Rodgers is an engineering firm known for its exceptional service and distinctive, people-first culture. Our success is driven by “The Crew”—a talented and dedicated team whose longevity reflects our commitment to creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and rewarded. We continuously strive to foster a culture that stands apart in the industry, offering meaningful career growth and stability as a legacy company that is not for sale. While we work hard and take pride in what we do, we also make time to connect and have fun through unique perks like casual dress, company-sponsored events, and a collaborative, engaging environment.
This is a Staff, hourly, non-exempt position
If you value Wood Rodgers’ unique, people-first culture and are eager to contribute to its continued growth, this role offers a dynamic range of responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to be mentored while participating in the following:
-
Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including transportation, civil engineering, planning, surveying, geotechnical, landscape architecture, and environmental professionals—to review site plans, assess projects, and develop solutions that minimize environmental impacts.
- Conduct site visits, collect field data, and perform biological and aquatic surveys to support environmental analysis and reporting.
- Assist in preparing environmental documentation and technical reports in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and TRPA requirements.
- Navigating environmental planning and permitting processes by coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to secure necessary regulatory approvals.
- Assist in preparing permit applications, monitor construction activities for compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and design specifications throughout project lifecycles.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and support informed project decision-making.
- Assist in supporting project delivery through research and project scoping.
- Build client relationships.
-
Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, or related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in environmental planning, permitting or related work.
- Working knowledge of key environmental regulations (e.g., ESA, CWA, NEPA, CEQA, TRPA, NDEP).
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong time management skills.
- Experience with GPS/GIS and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform fieldwork in varied and sometimes challenging environmental conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.
