Job Summary
I am seeking a (2-3+ actually, not 1) compassionate and reliably dedicated Home Caregiver to provide essential support to me (29 yr old) in my home. The ideal candidates will have experience working with people with disabilities, preferably relating to conditions involving paralysis, and will be responsible for assisting myself with daily living activities. This role is crucial in promoting independence and enhancing the quality of life for myself. This position is funded by the state and federal government under the "CDPA" Consumer Directed Personal Assistant Program. Clocking in/out and payroll is conducted by/through the NY State Department of Health's designated overseeing entity called "PPL". I am hiring for IMMEDIATE work.
I'm currently am hiring for ~2 full-time and ~2+ part-time positions for the following shifts:
☆Monday through Friday
- 8am-4pm | 40 hrs |
- 4pm-10pm | 30 hrs
☆Saturday and Sunday
- 8am-4pm | 16 hrs
- 4pm-10pm |12 hrs
☆Emergency On Call | 14 hrs
- 2 aids would be on call for 7 days of the week. Each aid would get 7 hours a week of pay, regardless if there are emergencies or not. You'll make out more than needing to actually be called, but when it happens, I need to be able to count on you. What I mean by that is there will be more weeks where you get paid for those hours each week for not having to be called in, than actually being called in.
☆Overall total: 112 hrs.
A few people had asked if I'm hiring 1 aid to do 112 hours per week. I want to be clear that I am looking to hire 2+ full time position(s) and 1+ part time position(s) between the 112 hours that I have available from the government to hire aids with.

I go over the position in detail during the interview but its' all pretty simple stuff. The care would be in a home I own. Working with me in my home everyday is by far the best form of health aid position, compared to any other hospital, nursing home, or home care setting. I'm easygoing and very mature. Whom I interview will have the opportunity to ask me questions as well. There are more pros to this position that you’d find out about when we speak. Here are some things to establish that there is great job security behind these job positions.
- I've had my spinal cord injury and other conditions since 2022. I am not expected to regain function of my paralyzed limbs.
- This is a federal/state program.
- The care would be done at my home, which I own without any financial issues. The work environment is inside a small home outside of town, with some privacy.
- I am the only 1 involved in the hiring/firing and receiving care.
- I have 112 hours for weekly payroll to hire with. This allows me flexibility for part time positions all the way up to fulltime, or even overtime, at our discretion.

Responsibilities
- Reminding when to perform specific activities such as:
- Appointments.
- Taking medication.
- Pressure relief.
Offer direct support in daily activities, including:
- Hygiene.
- Mobility assistance.
- Prepare and make food.
- Wash, dry, and put away dishes.
- Wash, dry, and organize apparel/adaptive gear accordingly.
- House-keeping | Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Accompany me to appointments (If/When wanted).
- Pick up medication from UHS Specialty Pharmacy.
- Shopping and/or putting away delivered groceries/home goods | Possibly delivered
- Recreational outings with my van.
- Foster a trusting relationship with each other while respecting each other's privacy and dignity. I am paralyzed but not cognitively deficient so reciprocated respect is expected.
- Unique tasks related to disability care that don’t come to mind.
The care will be in my home that I worked hard to buy before my accident so respect for my home is essential.
Reliable transportation to my home is essential. You need to have your own drivers license and vehicle to get an interview and job offer. Bus transportation will not work for these positions. There are no negative intentions by that. It's simply necessary, there's no way around this.
Qualifications
- Experience with said tasks aren’t 100% necessary but highly desired. Character qualities are much more important than experience. IE: Kindness and patience is more important than knowing how to help a paralyzed person (me) transfer to my wheelchair. Necessary empathetic qualities cannot be taught but skills and technique can be.
- Previous experience in home care or assisted living environments.
- Knowledge of care plans, medication administration, and patient observation techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with paralysis (paraplegia) or other disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and patience.
- Compassionate nature with a passion for helping others achieve their best quality of life.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with caregiving, including helping me use my medical equipment to transfer myself (slideboard "Beezy board"). I can function relatively well so I need assistance with stability while transferring, not so much strength.
- Ability to be content during downtime because there will be downtime due to my fatigue/lack of stamina.
- Ability to understand that this is not paid via out of pocket, so we must stay compliant with this program's guidelines, which are very straightforward and simple. It has taken me 3 years to get this high of caregiver aid hour benefits so not committing fraud is an essential component to this being a smooth engagement. A background check will be conducted as well.
