Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify coding accuracy and completeness for billing purposes.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, including resubmissions and appeals.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve overall coding accuracy.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
- Generate reports on revenue cycle performance metrics, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical billing processes, including claim submission, follow-up, and collections.
- Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems to document billing activities accurately.
- Excellent understanding of the revenue cycle from patient registration through final payment posting.
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and resolve claim denials efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
