Nano-C is experiencing an exciting period of growth driven by increased customer adoption of our high-value products. We are currently seeking a Research and Development Scientist to be a key part of our team.
The Research and Development Scientist will work closely with the Director of Display Materials and will be primarily responsible for utilizing wet chemistry to prepare, purify, formulate, and coat carbon-based inks and dispersions, as well as the characterization of these powders, inks, and films. Interacting with a highly talented team of scientists and engineers, the Research and Development Scientist will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art analytical equipment including optical spectroscopy and thermogravimetric methods, as well as coating equipment in order to fabricate thin films.
Research and Development Scientist Qualifications
- Must have a BS (MS desirable) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- 2–5 years of relevant experience, including co-ops or internships; prior experience in a wet laboratory environment is required
- Interest in performing and developing a wide breadth of novel and existing research and development chemical processes, including product development, quality, and troubleshooting
- Strong analytical and documentation skills; prior exposure to DOE and statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP) is desirable
- Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, organize and present cumulative device performance data
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as contribute to a team environment
- Ability to handle chemicals and use a respirator mask, safety glasses, and lab coat
- Ability to adhere to all safety procedures at all times; some functions involve use of hazardous materials
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and SharePoint

Research and Development Scientist Job Responsibilities
- Purify materials including further development of existing as well as novel chemical processes
- Create and advance novel dispersion formulations through active process development
- Characterize carbon-based R&D inks and dispersions in support of internal and customer evaluations
- Develop and establish product specifications through film/ink/dispersion characterization and compliance testing
- Execute product stability testing and maintain database
- Proactively maintain/advance/update/create SOPs where applicable
