Responsibilities
- Respond to Service Calls: Promptly answer dispatch calls to assist motorists with vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or towing needs, ensuring timely arrivals at locations in La Crosse and surrounding areas.
- Operate Tow Trucks: Safely operate light-duty and flatbed tow trucks to tow vehicles to Don’s Auto Repair, authorized service stations, or designated locations, using equipment like chains, winches, and antisway bars.
- Provide Roadside Assistance: Perform minor repairs and services, such as tire changes, jump-starts, lockout assistance, and fuel delivery, to get customers back on the road when possible.
- Ensure Safety: Adhere to traffic laws, use proper safety signals, and take precautions to secure vehicles without damage, prioritizing the safety of yourself, customers, and other drivers.
- Customer Service: Interact with customers professionally and empathetically, addressing their concerns, explaining services, and recommending solutions to ensure a positive experience.
- Maintain Equipment: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of tow trucks, checking tires, brakes, hydraulics, and lights to ensure optimal performance and compliance with company standards.
- Complete Documentation: Maintain accurate records of each tow job, including date, time, location, vehicle details, services provided, and payments collected, submitting paperwork daily.
Qualifications
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or higher preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a tow truck driver or in a related field (e.g., commercial driving, automotive repair) preferred; willing to train the right candidate.
- Mechanical Knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics and automotive diagnostics to perform minor repairs and assess vehicle conditions.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift heavy equipment, bend, climb, and work in adverse weather conditions, with the stamina to handle physically demanding tasks.
- Customer Service Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers professionally, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Availability: Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call availability for emergency towing services.
- Certifications: Completion of a towing training program or certification from the Towing and Recovery Association of America (TRAA) is a plus.
- Background: Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
