Job Summary
This position assists with the development and implementation of recreation programs which meet/exceed standards of all regulatory agencies and facility policies and procedures, in order to provide a planned program of varied group and individual activities geared to the individual resident needs. These activities will be available for a reasonable number of hours each day. In addition, all transportation scheduling will be included – necessary appointments and outings with occasional driving if necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full time in patient/resident activities program in a health care setting OR completed a training course approved by the State of Illinois.
- Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
- Ability to drive a large passenger van and to load and unload residents.
- Ability to work independently to make decisions, recognize problems, and provide a plan of correction.
- Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, visitors, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- C.N.A. license (or are willing to begin coursework to obtain license upon hire)
- Possess knowledge in the field of gerontology as it relates to long term care.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Frequently: Works in well lighted/ventilated work areas.
- Frequently: Moderate physical effort (lift/carry 25 pounds).
- Occasionally: Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, lifting, moving,
climbing.
- Regularly: Pushing carts and wheelchairs to transport residents.
- Regularly: Contact with residents’ families, personnel, and
visitors under all conditions and circumstances.
- Occasionally: At times subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and/or family members.
- Regularly: Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Occasionally: Irregular working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
- Rarely: Subject to falls, burns from equipment.
- Rarely: Subject to infectious diseases.
