Construction Accountant
Position Summary:
The Construction Accountant will be a key member of the Construction & Development team and will support project management staff to successfully execute construction projects, record and analyze financial data, evaluate job cost attributes, minimize production costs, and oversee supplier contract performance.
The ideal candidate is a highly detailed professional who can manage the accounting of simultaneous construction projects, create/maintain accurate budget performance trackers, and generate financial statement disclosures related to company activities.
To ensure success in this role, the candidate should display excellent business acumen, strong communication skills, and high level of financial accuracy.
Construction Accountant Responsibilities:
- Lead in the development of conceptual budgets and cash flow projections for projects starting during inception and due diligence
- Validate the accuracy of all inputs for budgets and financial plans
- Track the financial and accounting status of all design and engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and any other consultants engaged on projects
- Receive, review, and validate the completeness, accuracy, and proper approval of all invoices and applications for payment
- Serve as primary liaison for vendor and suppliers to verify receipt of all necessary documentation required for invoice processing pursuant to contract terms
- Prepare cost analyses by interpreting projects' financial data and report any financial risks or budgetary discrepancies for management review
- Keep records of all project finances for internal/external auditing and tax purposes
- Analyze all transactions and work unforeseen costs into the budget.
- Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, lien releases, and other pertinent construction documents
Construction Accountant Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- A experience in construction accounting is preferred
- A minimum of 3 year's experience in private or public accounting
- Excellent knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures
- Familiarity with accounting software, such as QuickBooks
- Knowledge of subcontractor payables, waivers and AIA documents
- Solid analytical and mathematical skills
- Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
