Job Description: Assembly and Wiring Technician
Position Title: CPW Electrical Panel Assembly and Wiring Technician Reports to: Operations and Engineering Manager Location: United States, Greater Pittsburgh Region Work Schedule: On-Site
Covenant Panelworks
About CPW
Covenant Panelworks (CPW) was created to solve the biggest challenges in industrial panel building in North America: inconsistent quality, slow lead times, and inflated costs.
Sister company to leading electrical controls manufacturer c3controls, we deliver more than a finished panel—we deliver a Covenant: a promise of reliability, responsiveness, and partnership from design through delivery.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assembly and Wiring Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for the physical assembly and wiring of complex industrial control panels, ensuring every component is placed precisely and every wire is landed according to electrical schematics and/or shop drawings.
The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, possesses a high level of mechanical aptitude, and takes pride in delivering clean, organized, and high-quality electrical builds. This is a fast-paced environment where quality and safety are our top priorities.
Key Responsibilities
● Mechanical Assembly: Layout and mount electrical components (e.g. DIN rail, wire duct, PLC racks, power supplies, circuit breakers, transformers, and terminal blocks) onto enclosures and/or sub panels according to shop drawings.
● Wiring & Routing: Route and tie wires neatly using wire duct and cable ties. Route, strip, crimp, and terminate wires according to electrical schematics and point-to-point wiring diagrams.
● Wire Preparation and Termination: Strip, crimp, and lug wires accurately. Ensure all connections are secure and meet torque specifications.
● Labeling: Apply wire markers and component tags in strict accordance with the Bill of Materials (BOM).
● Quality Control: Perform self-inspections and continuity tests using multimeters to ensure the panel is error-free before it moves to the testing phase.
● Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure all tools are properly calibrated and stored.
Qualifications & Skills
● Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret shop drawings such as electrical diagrams and mechanical layout drawings is preferred.
● Tool Proficiency: Experience with hand and power tools (wire strippers, crimpers, drills, sabre saw, torque wrenches, and multimeters).
● Manual Dexterity: High level of precision when working with small components and color-coded wiring.
● Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with UL 508A or NEC standards is a significant plus.
● Education: High School Diploma or GED; technical certification or an Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology is preferred.
Competencies for Success
● Attention to Detail: One loose wire or mislabeled terminal can cause a system failure.
● Efficiency: Meeting production deadlines without compromising on craftsmanship.
● Problem Solving: Identifying discrepancies between shop drawings and physical build.
● Organization: High levels of organization and time management.
● Safety Mindset: Adherence to PPE and electrical safety protocols.
Work Environment
● Facility: Modern, climate-controlled industrial production floor utilizing lean manufacturing principles.
● Physical Demands: Active role requiring standing, bending, and fine motor dexterity for intricate wiring; ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
● Tools & Tech: Daily use of precision hand tools, power drivers, measurement tools, and electrical testing equipment.
● Safety Culture: Strict adherence to PPE standards (safety glasses, steel-toed boots) and electrical safety protocols.
● Atmosphere: A focused, detail-oriented setting that balances independent technical work with team-based quality goals.
