Position Overview: The Assistant Teacher supports daily classroom operations by assisting with activities, maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment, and helping supervise children. This position supports children’s development and school readiness in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards. The Assistant Teacher builds and maintains professional working relationships with families, community partners, co-workers, and supervisors.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Support the teacher in maintaining the daily classroom learning environment and implementing curriculum activities.
Comply with MVAC policies, Head Start Performance Standards, and applicable Minnesota child care licensing statutes and rules.
Complete required paperwork and data entry accurately and on time, in accordance with program requirements and the forms routing checklist.
Required Education and Experience: Applicant must have a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Early Childhood Education, an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Education, a Center-Based Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or be willing to obtain a qualifying degree or credential within two years of the hire date. This position requires strong computer, communication, and organizational skills. Bilingual skills are beneficial.
